4 U.S. Code § 8. Respect for flag: "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."

 

Springfield American Legion Post 227 conducted its annual Flag Day ceremony at Springfield's Old Central Schoolhouse on Saxer Avenue. In a most dignified manner, we disposed of numerous United States flags.

 

As always, the traditional gathering also allowed our members to celebrate our Army's 247th birthday in the company of veterans from every service.
