Program details as of April 2025 (subject to change):

  • The intent of the Springfield Hero banner program is to honor, remember and respect the individual on the banner.

  • The banners honor Military (currently serving, veterans, missing and killed-in-action) and First Responders (Fire, Police, Ambulance); living and deceased.

  • Each banner is 2 feet wide and 4 feet high.

  • The banners will be installed at a height of approximately 14 feet.

  • Each banner is made of quality material with the image on the front and back of each banner, and made to last outdoors for one year.

  • The layout of Springfield hero banners are standardized which limits to amount of text on each banner.

  • Negative content or text is not permitted.

  • The location of the banners are restricted to specific streets in cooperation with Springfield Township officials.

  • The banners will be installed and remain in place for approximately one year from the time of the installation. The banners are offered to the family at the end of that period.

  • If the banner becomes damaged, or removed for whatever reason, we will attempt to reinstall it - if possible.

  • No payment is required until you have given approval for a draft copy of the banner.  After order, manufacturing and delivery takes approximately 3 weeks.

  • Installation may take several months or longer due to the limited utility pole placements available in Springfield.

  • The estimated cost of the banner and installation hardware is $200. This is paid directly to the sign vendor in coordination with the Spring American Legion Banner Program Manager. Note: costs may fluctuate as actual costs are realized. Donations received for this program and hardware reutilization may defray or decrease costs to requesters.

Supported by the Springfield community and Township, the program is managed by the Springfield American Legion Post 227.
